Identifying Important Parts of a Car's Engine, Do it Right

Car Engine Uncovered

The engine functions similar to the body's central nervous system. It is responsible for generating energy that powers the vehicle. It consists of interlocking components operating through internal combustion. The fuel is deflagrated to produce pressure that pushes the components to work. Each part is vital for engine efficiency. It is useful for repairs and replacements to know the different parts of the engine and how they work. Engine pistons are cylindrical pieces of metal that pump fuel. Each piston is placed inside a cylindrical hole and attached to a rod, allowing it to move up and down. As the pistons move, they turn the crankshaft, a coiled device found beneath the cylinders.

At the bottom of the engine lies the cylinder block, which is a metal frame that holds major engine components together. Typically made of aluminum or iron, this is the largest part under the hood. Its shape varies depending on manufacturer design. The main functions of the cylinder block are to shell in the components and keep them from disintegrating as the engine runs.
